[ mood | thoughtful ]

I really haven't paid attention to this journal in a long time, and I'm sorry. I really have a lot going on in my life. So much happened to me over 2008-2009.

I fell in love.
Moved to a new apartment.
Got groped by a pervert.
Got my heart broken.
Got promoted at work.
Biked home in a raging lightning storm.
Gained a special friend.

Too much is just too personal to go into in detail on this journal.

I may just turn this into my personal fashion blog from now on.

Another perfect coat. [14 Jul 2009|02:26pm]
I have fallen in love with Soia and Kyo designer coats. As soon as some went on sale, I knew I had to get one. It just came in the mail Friday, and I'm obsessed with it! I really need to move up north obviously.

I have piercings in places besides my ears.

I have freckles.

I've lost a child.

Embarrassment:

I've slipped out a "lol" in a spoken conversation.

Disney movies still make me cry.

I've snorted while laughing.

I've laughed so hard I've cried.

I've glued my hand to something.

I've laughed till some kind of beverage came out of my nose.

I've had my pants rip in public.

*sigh* time to rant again. [07 Apr 2008|04:10pm]
[ mood | bitchy ]

I'm probably a little late to this subject, but an obnoxious email from my uncle prompted me to bring it up again. This subject makes me kind of angry. And that subject is the media firestorm over Jeremiah Wright (Obama's pastor/friend.)

Also my fault for watching the "O'Reilly Factor" over Easter weekend with my brother while we were in Beaumont, which actually had this incredibly racist headline: "What's really going on inside of America's black churches?" complete with stock footage of the interior of some random black church.

Where do I begin?

A.) Rev.Wright/Trinity Church is/are not racist! Why is it SO FUCKING HARD for white people to accept the fact that nonwhites have had an entirely different world view throughout American history, and acknowledging this fact does not make one a racist against white people. History matters, godammit, and this is why the word "honky" will never be as offensive as the word "n*****."
Wright states: "And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations...When it came to treating her citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. She put them in chains, the government put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton field, put them in inferior schools, put them in substandard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness." Ummm...are we not in agreeance over this indisputable fact?
ANd yeah, he said some nutty stuff (like about AIDS, and he certainly wasn't the first one to ever say this,) but most of the things he is talking about are inconvenient truths. Saying that may not make me very popular, but seriously.

Haven't updated in awhile... [04 Feb 2008|12:31pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | The Tough Alliance- Miami ]

I just had a weird incident in the elevator today at work. I got in with some other woman (maybe about 29 or 30), she made some remark about how the people ahead of us didn't hold the door open for us, and we were laughing about that. Then, she interrupts me, and before I know it she's going "Oh you're so petite! If I could have a body like that...I would just kill!"

Me: "well, I pretty much eat whatever I want so..."

She: [cuts me off] "I'm about 165 right now, and I'm 5'9. But my boyfriend wants me to be about 135, so I'm working on that."

I'm already weirded out that I'm somebody's "inspiration" to lose weight, but her boyfriend wants her to be a certain weight? What kind of control issues are going on here?

Me: "165? Oh you're not even overweight at all! You look fine."
She: [interrupting] "Oh look at you, you're just so cute!"
[I get off at my floor at this point.]

I don't know, it's not really my place to say anything since I've never been overweight in my life, but it's just kind of sad to see somebody obviously healthy be so obsessed with her weight and the weights of other women. I mean, this lady was obsessed- I just felt like it was consuming her every thought.

On another note, I saw "No Country for Old Men" last night. I love the Coen Brothers anyway, so of course I really enjoyed it. And Javier Bardem= awesome. If that movie wins, it might be the first time in a long time that the Oscars gave the award to a deserving movie. I'm sorry, disagree if you want, but to me the Oscars suck every year. They suck hard. And yet I still love watching them. Haven't missed a show since 1993. But Yeah, I mean seriously- "Crash?" "Chicago?" "Beautiful Mind?" Good god. Haven't seen "The Departed," so I can't really say on that one. Anyway, now I'm just rambling.

weird movie update [09 Nov 2007|07:54pm]

[ music | The Sparks- Girl from Germany ]

I'm not sure why I felt compelled to write about this.

As far as fucked-up movies go, almost none are more crazy than an obscure British 1960s musical called "Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?" It's so bizarre- quite a bit of nudity, a little bit of Lolita (the Mercy Humppe character- although so obvious this actress is well into her 20s) and a really young Joan Collins is in it too. It's so obscure that this movie was in a special "out-of-print" section of the video store. And it looked like someone taped it off the TV.

Also rented for old times sake, "The Night of the Lepus", a great old low-budget movie from my childhood days about giant rabbits attacking a town in Arizona.

San Francisco trip [17 Oct 2007|08:16pm]

Just got back from San Francisco- visting my sister at her art school. I did so much in just 4 days-
Saw a musical the first night (Sweeney Todd- wonderful!)
Tried "piroshkes" for the first time.
Visited Japan Town, Chinatown, the Marina district, the Italian district, the beach, Haight-Ashbury
Saw a Contemporary art exhibit at the MOMA- by Olafur Eliasson
Went to see my sister's art studio- met some of her friends
Walked up and down many many hills.
We had beautiful 60 degree weather the whole time.

I'm definitely going back!

I'm actually updating! [08 Oct 2007|07:31pm]

This week has been interesting- my 21 year cousin from Australian is visiting, and we've been taking him all over town. Last time he was here was in 2000. We took him to the Renaissance Faire this Saturday. We had a blast, but good lord it was hot! Summer is over, but it was hotter than it's been in July or June. Luckily, it cooled down in the evening, and it started to rain.

In other news, I'll be going to San Francisco next weekend to visit my sister.

[ music | Love is All- Felt Tip ]

My sister has been visiting from San Francisco, so I've been hanging out with her, and she's introduced me to some of the weirdest movies. El Topo (1970) and The Holy Mountain (1973) are two underground Mexican films by ALejandro Jadorowsky, which can really be described as art films/pseudo-westerns. Holy Mountain being my favorite, is such a blend of grotesque and stunningly beautiful imagery. I won't say anything else to give it away.

I've also re-visited one of my old favorites from high school, A Clockwork Orange (1971) and have also started reading the book again. The Seventies had the best movies. Real Horrorshow.

This weekend I'll be taking a road trip up to Beaumont, just my sister and me, so I've taken Monday off from work. I really need to be away from that madhouse. I go back and forth from hating to liking my job just a litte (mainly because of the attachments I've formed there), but I've got to get out eventually.

I hardly ever write anything in here these days!

Well, this past weekend I spent in Galveston- one of my favorite cities. I was kind of a family thing (my uncle and grandmother were there); my parents' friends rented this beachhouse for the weekend- it was 2 stories, and right on the beach overlooking the water. And it wasn't a public beach,so there weren't a lot of families crowding it up.

Saturday night (Kentucky Derby) we all bet on the horses -only the top 3 got money- and mine came in third!

So much is going right now - I'm getting a new apartment mate and everything. And if our landlords raise the rent again I'm going to scream.

Anyway, that's all for now. Maybe I'll post pictures from Galveston later.

What member of the Village People are you?

You're the policeman. You protect the weak and ensure that justice is done, all while wearing really tight pants. Why wear a uniform if you can't have style? You don't take any crap and are more than happy to use your nightstick on anyone who gives you lip.

More excitement from work. Last week some of us younger adjusters had to take a "pop quiz" which also included some written answers at the end. I was the nervous person there, but apparently I scored the highest. And I just found out yesterday that I have been promoted. So now I am a "Claims Examiner II", and yeah...more money.

[ mood | embarrassed ]

Could this day get any worse?

I was on the call center today (due to lack of staffing), while at the same time I started having complications with a few of my files. I was so busy today, I didn't get the chance to eat one single thing. And the computer was having connectivity issues.

Around 3:30, I buy some popcorn and take it to the breakroom, figuring I ought to eat something. I put it on 4 minutes, and left to attend to something very important. And I am just NOT the kind of person who leaves popcorn unattended, but I did today. When I came back, smoke was just pouring out of the microwave, and it smelled burned (of course.) I just kind of tossed it in the trashcan and left.

The fire alarm went off and the WHOLE DAMN BUILDING had to evacuate. Worse, everybody (on my floor) knows that I did it. They all think it's hilarious, but I was mortified. Work was interrupted, and everybody had to go outside- everyone in the entire 15 floor building (hopefully not every floor was affected, but who knows), all because of me. We just came back in about 20 minutes ago. I'm so embarrassed!

I'll be returning to work today (at 10:00) after my long weekend. NOt only did we get Monday off, but we got Tuesday and Wednesday off because of the ice storm we've been having. At first I was a real wimp about the cold weather, but yesterday I went out for an hour long walk, and thought it was just beautiful. I wouldn't want it to be that way all the time, but more often would be nice.
Not a hint of sunshine in the sky, a layer of ice on all the grass, icecicles hanging off everything, and a small layer of white.
Unfortunately our electricity went off 3 times (the first time was at night when me and my roommate were watching "Nightmare on Elm Street") but fortunately, it was for very short periods of time. It was also kind of boring not being able to drive anywhere, but other than that, not so bad.
